What is dowsing?
Dowsing is an old tradition, best known as a method to locate underground water veins for wells. We use dowsing in our Feng Shui practice to detect energetic structures carrying Geopathic Stress (areas which increase decay which are often closely correlated with long term illness).
Detecting invisible forms of land energies and measuring their influences is nothing new. For centuries people included this knowledge of the forces of nature in their daily life - in farming or even in mining for minerals.

Dowsing can not only be used to detect earth and water patterns but also for tapping into our intuitive capabilities. The right part of our brain represents the intuitive aspect which works as a parallel processor and is incredibly fast. The left brain (the rational mind) acts more as a serial processor, dealing with one issue at a time. This hemisphere slows down the overall performance of our "bio-computer" dramatically.
If we watch ourselves carefully when we make an important decision, we often had a gut sense when we first considered the issue. Looking back, we recognize that we should have followed this intutition instead of listening to the arguments of our rational mind. To simply follow our intuition often serves us best. Dowsing allows us to tap into that subconscious aspect which connects us to our innate wisdom.
Dowsing in most cases is practised by using different tools. Water dowsers originally used tree branches shaped like a Y (Y-rods) and L-rods (wires bent into an L-shape), or pendulums. Over the last few decades additional versions such as tensors (bobbers) came into fashion. Tensors have a handle with a steel wire about a foot long with a ring or ball on the end.
In Europe dowsing is widely used today - similiar to AK-testing (Applied Kinesiology – muscle testing) to determine the compatibility of homeopathoc remedies, to seek guidance with body-adjusting procedures, or to select compatible supplements and dosage.
Why dowsing in Feng Shui?
A Feng Shui consultation without evaluating and quantifying of the energies in the house will not be very effective. The best Bagua interpretation or Flying Star reading is useless when Geopathic Stress is present under a person's sleeping area. Dowsing is the method of choice for finding energy-draining Geopathic Stress zones. Dowsing can also be used later in the process to control if measures taken to protect your home were successful and sufficient.
Make sure your Feng Shui practitioner is familiar with Geopathic Stress and knows how to locate harmful earth grids and underground water. A simple method using our own body as a dowsing instrument is called Bodydowsing.
